August 13th - Construction Update

Construction has been progressing well throughout the last few weeks. Since the previous update, Willow Street from Shebal Ave to Creekside Ave has been partially opened to traffic. A single lane of the roadway has remained closed in each direction to allow work on the median and the boulevards.
The sidewalk from the east project limit to Creekside Ave has been completed. The contractor has been placing topsoil in the boulevard and behind the sidewalk to tie into the existing ground surface. The topsoil work will continue throughout the next week followed by the installation of irrigation systems and ultimately seeding.
Work in the median between Shebal Ave and Creekside Ave will continue throughout the next few weeks. This work will include various plantings, trees, quartzite boulders, and other landscape features.
Excavation of the roadway has been completed on phase 3 of construction which includes Willow Street from just east of Honeysuckle Drive to the east side of the school property. This section of roadway will be the extents of the newly widened concrete roadway section, and it will transition back to the 2-lane section west of that. Much of the sidewalk on this phase of construction has also been completed. The cement treated subgrade has been completed and the contractor is scheduled to install the gravel base course in the coming days. See the snip below showing the general work area of phase 3. Roadway pavement will follow the installation of the gravel base course as well as the remaining concrete work including the median, sidewalks, and crosswalk.
The sanitary sewer installation from just east of Tiger Way, west under Minnesota Ave and continuing to the west is well underway and is on schedule to be completed in the coming week. Once the sanitary sewer is complete the water main will be started and is estimated to be completed in 1-2 weeks. Following the installation of the sanitary sewer and water main the topsoil will be replaced and seeding will occur.
The turning lane on Willow Street at the Willow St/Tiger Way intersection is nearing completion and will be ready for traffic on August 18th. Willow Street from Minnesota Ave to Tiger Way will be reopened to allow traffic to access the high school from both Minnesota Ave and Willow Street (from the west). The access map is shown below.
Overall, the project is progressing well and is on track to be completed in the original completion dates set for the project. The main focus in the coming weeks will be to complete the roadway on Willow Street between Honeysuckle Drive and Tiger Way which will ultimately allow traffic through this section.
